Here's my entry for the Stranger than ever contest!

WARNING! VAGUELY TECHNICAL BLABBLING AHEAD:

Ok, I'll say it myself: I can't paint to save my life. As much as I like to paint, I tend to prefer drawing, because painting just seems... unatural to me, I don't really know any technique and I tend to approch painting with the same methods I use when I draw... which is usually not a very good idea since these two mediums are so different.

However, I wanted to try something else for the contest, something else than drawing, maybe something harder since I had a lot of time to do it... And I kinda like how it came out. It's (very) far from perfect, but I like it.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER:

So... yeah. The Stranger. Many Myst fans here on DA have their own versions of the stranger, and I've alway said to myself that one day I'd create mine too. Until recently, I had used my character Lorina... but it wasn't really what I wanted.

So before even doing the painting, I sat at my desk and tried to create my own vision of the Stranger, and what appeared was this guy. This kinda nerdy, tall and skinny, silent introverted type guy. I called him William for now, but maybe I'll change it later, since I'm not sure if I like it or not.

I thought about giving him a Squee... but decided that maybe Will could have another animal: a Mangree. Mangrees are underloved anyway. This little one don't have a name yet, but I'm not even sure if Will would even give him a name. The Mangree probably followed him by himself...

I choose Amateria because, even though I love<i/> Narayan, I've always been in love with that particular place of Amateria. This Age was a nightmare for me (puzzles, omg), but it was such a magnificent place. I love the sky and the water, the storms in the background (I wanted to paint one but no matter how I tried, I couldn't make it look good), the permanent sunset. A really beautiful Age.

So... here's William, just relaxing for a few hours in Amateria. :)

(sory if there's any grammar mistake in the description ^^; I understand english perfectly but still have a hard time writing it sometimes)

Thanks! Just looking at some screencaps of Amateria make me want to go there, sit in a comfy chair and draw all day :lol: I really need to do more Myst fanart! ^^

Amateria is one of my favorites, too! Not bad for someone who's not a painter...I'm the same way with paints. It's got good mood and perspective though!

Thanks a lot! I like mangrees, but yikes, they are far more difficult to draw than I remembered :rofl: In Will's case, a mangree sure is a better companion, since they're so curious. Will would probably be too absorbed in the Age's puzzles to really pay attention to a little fearful squee ^^

:rofl: The more I think about it, the more I think that I'll just keep the name "William". I wasn't so sure, but now I think I'm too used to it to change it again (happens to my characters all the time!) ... His glasses terrify me. The more I draw them... They... they just keep getting bigger and bigger... Face-eating glasses of doom. *shudder*

I love squees, but the more I think of it, I think I like mangrees a bit more (but argh, mangrees are though to draw!). I'say it's beacause we interract much more with them, and because unless many people, I loved their puzzle :rofl: (almost gave me a headache... but OMG cuteness overload!)

And, well... Will would probably pay too much attention to Edanna's puzzles to take the time to bring back a squee with him. The mangree probably just followed him by curiosity. :D
